Along the entire coast there are numerous sand-and pebble beaches, remote and hidden small bays, filled with cristalclear water. Apart from the high season (half July until the end of August) these beaches are mostly deserted. They are awarded by the ‘Bandiera Blue’, meaning they are among the cleanest ones of Italy and most of them are freely accessible. Some of them have been awarded as ‘the most beautiful beaches of Italy’.
The closest beach is at Villammare, at 3,5 km from the house. It has a nice boulevard (lungomare) and the beach is a mix of sand and pebbles.
Other beaches are to be found along the road to Maratea. Just look for the signs saying ‘spiaggia’. In Acquafredda, across from the railway station are steps leading to a small and beautiful beach. Highly recommended!
Between Scario and Maria di Camarota lies the Masseta coast. Here the beaches can only be reached by boat. From the second half of June until the first half of September there are many organised boattrips to these beautiful beaches, mostly departing from Scario. (sometimes depending on the weather)
Near Palinuro are very large sandy beaches, which can easily be reached by car and with ample parking facilities. In the high season however it’s another story! The beaches are crowded and you will have to pay for a parking place.
